Debriefing Loss and Grief
Description
This workshop is geared towards anyone who regularly encounters death and deep loss in the course of their work. It builds upon the core belief that death and loss are such significant events that they cannot be ignored, nor simply dealt with in a cursory fashion --doing so creates multiple risks:
- decreased effectiveness
- risk of triggering in critical situations
- diminished trust in team members
- fatigue, burnout and job doubts
To avoid these and other severe consequences, it is important to acknowledge the raw biology of grief and trauma, and to deal with these issues in a sustainable and trust-building manner.
Intended Audience
This workshop is geared toward the following:
- Critical Care Unit Staff (ICU, PICU, NICU, CCU, TRACU): intensivists and other doctors; nurses, respiratory therapists, unit aides and clerks, unit administrators.
- Hospital Chaplains and Social Workers
- Burn Unit Staff
- Emergency Department and Trauma Center Staff
- First Responder Emergency Services Personnel
